The Debate Club

After a long pause, The Debate Club is back.

Starting Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 11am IST, we are resuming our weekly live voice debates. The format is the same as before: community-suggested topics, member-voted, debated openly on a live Zoom call. The only thing that’s changed is that we now treat this site as the single source of truth for everything, including when we meet, how topics are picked, where to listen, and how to get involved.

What we’re doing

Every Saturday at 11am Indian Standard Time, we’ll meet on Zoom for a live voice debate on a topic the community has chosen. The session lasts roughly an hour and a half. Anyone can listen. Anyone can speak.

The full schedule lives on our Meetup page, which is also where the Zoom link for each upcoming debate gets posted. RSVP there if you’d like a reminder.

How topics are chosen

We don’t pick topics ourselves. The flow is:

  1. You suggest a topic. Anyone can fill out our topic-suggestion form.
  2. The community votes. We periodically post polls in our WhatsApp group, and members vote on which suggestions to take up.
  3. The winners get scheduled. Based on poll results, we publish the upcoming Saturday sessions on Meetup, with the Zoom link attached.
  4. We debate it live. Saturday, 11am IST, on Zoom.

If you have something you’d like the community to debate, send it through. The form takes about a minute.

Why we’re doing this

The short version is that public conversation today is mostly one-directional. A small number of broadcasters publish a narrative, and the rest of us consume it without much avenue to push back, add nuance, or shape what gets said next.

We don’t think that’s healthy, and we don’t think it has to be that way. The Debate Club is our small attempt at the alternative: a neutral, civil room where anyone, on any side of a topic, can show up and actually be heard. We facilitate the conversation; we don’t take sides.

How to join

The fastest way in is the WhatsApp Community. That’s where the day-to-day chat, topic polls, and announcements happen.
